Elementary school children walking home with backpacks and brown lunch bags
WEEKEND HUNGER GAP

From shelf to backpack

Suppliers donate food. Volunteers pack and deliver it. Kids who’d otherwise go hungry head into the weekend with a bag in hand — every Friday, before the bell rings.

No kid goes hungry on our watch

School meals keep kids fed Monday through Friday. Daily Bread covers the rest: weekend bags, holiday boxes, and summer break deliveries so Texas children have reliable food at home.

How the weekend bag gets home

A simple loop between schools, packing hubs, and volunteer drivers — built so every child has food when class is not in session.

Schools identify kids
Teachers and counselors discreetly flag families who need extra food support for weekends and school breaks.
Hubs pack weekend bags
Volunteers fill brown-bag kits with breakfast, lunch, and snack items tailored to each child's age and allergies.
Volunteers get it home
Bags go home on Friday, to bus stops, or to doorsteps — so kids have food from the last bell to the first bell.
